THE FLOWER GARDEN

Chrysanthemums are again in full flower. Being shallow rooting, they must be regularly watered when tho soil at the roots is dry.

Prepare ground for cyclamens, pansies, cinerarias, nemesias, summer-flower-ing sweet peas. Deeply dig and well manure.

Complete the formation of lawns and properly level the surface. Sow best lawn grasses and well rake the seed in and roll.

Alterations to old and laying-out of new flower gardens should be done during the autumn. Fallen leaves are beginning to litter the garden and grounds. Rake them up and deposit to rot and produce leaf soil.

Summer-flowering annuals that arc over should be dug under to have the ground ready for resowing or planting. Complete the pruning of hedges, excepting those composed of cupressus macrocarpa and other conifers. Lift old canna clumps, divide, and reserve sufficient for next planting, and heel them in closely together. Well manure the ground occupied by cannas and do not replant them in the same place next year.
