AGED ACTORS’ HOME

CARE IN CALIFORNIA LOS ANGELES MANSION The need for a home for the aged actors of Hollywood has been brought home to the younger generation who have seen famous stars of other days wane and who have come to the realisation that fame at best is transient, particularly in the movie world. Several bodies of players are interested in the movement, the Masquers (the California duplicate the famous Lambs Club of New York), the Troupers, and the Theatrical Press representatives. The Troupers, made up of older actors, own a property near Riverside, California, and it was to be sold for use as a reservoir, the money from the sale to be used in the purchase of a piece of land nearer Los Angeles, where a home is to be built, modelled on the lines of the Elberon Home, where the sick and aged players live in comfort in New Jersey.

The Actors’ Fund cares for the immediate needs of applicants for relief: the agent of the fund then iquires into the worthiness of the person, and if really needy, assistance is forthcoming until he secures engagement. Admission to the Fund Home is only for actors over 60. The mansion is a fine old place, with excellent service. The groups interested in the new movement mav appeal to the fund to help thenj.

Groucho Marx seldom smokes offstage. Zeppo Marx can’t resist new automobiles and trades in his “old’ one at least twice a year.

Bela Lugosi, portrayer of “Dra cula” and other “horror” parts, makes his debut as a film comedian in Paramount’s “International House” with Peggy Hopkins Joyce, W. C Fields, and Sari Maritza.
