WOMEN AND GOLF
Women golfers have slowly but in* sidiously broken down the barriers of men’s clubs in England during tho past 10 years, until now, of the more famous clubs, tho Royal St. George’s, at Sandwich, is believed to bo tho only one which still retains its exclusively masculine ramparts. Even tho Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, which has for 67 years withstood tho “tempting smiles and maidenly wiles” of members of the Wimbledon Ladies’ Golf Club, admitted them on November 5. Many golf clubs now allow three different kinds of membership for their women golfers. There is the full women’s membership, where they pay slightly less than tho men. and can play on Saturdays or Sundays, but not before 3 p.m. on men’s competition days. They must have Ladies’ Golf Union handicaps below 16. A lower fee is paid by associate members who | have no handicap or a high one. But they must not play before throe on Saturdays, noon on Sundays, or before three on competition days. There is also tho five-day membership, which is the cheapest of all.
