W.D.F.U.

THE FORDELL BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Fordell branch of the W.D.F.U., was held in the Fordell Hall on April 20, when there was a good attendance of members. It was decided to hold a social evening in conjunction with the annual meeting of the local Farmers’ Union. An announcement was made that a meeting organised by the local branches of the WID.F.U., and the W.I. and open to all countrywomen would be held in the church hall on Thursday, the 27th. inst., at 2 o’clock, to arrange for lectures and demonstrations on home science subjects to be given by Miss MacMillan. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. Grammar for kindly auditing the accounts, and to Mr. Wyley for the loan of his grounds for a garden party. The president reported a very successful year’s work. A donation of £l5 had been sent to the Community Chest, the calls on which owing to hard times, had been very heavy this year. Through leaving the district several members had resigned during tho year, but owing to new members joining, the membership had increased. The resignations of Mrs. Budge, and Mrs. G. Sutherland were received with regret. They had both been keen and active members of the committee since the formation of the branch.

A most satisfactory balance-sheet was presented and adopted. Hearty votes of thanks to the president, Mrs. MacLcan and the secretary, Miss Wyley were carried unanimously. The annual meeting of the Wangaehu branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in the hall on the evening of April 10, Miss Baker presiding. A report on the year’s work was read by the president. This was shown to be very satisfactory. Members had been instructed in the art of making raffia trays, sea-grass stools, and wool quilts. A bale of wool was collected by members, profits from its sale being given to the Mayor’s Relief Fund. A donation of £5 was sent to Community Chest. Other donations were made towards the support of a Flock House boy, and towards the installation of talkie pictures at Poukiore Sanatorium. The birthday party held in September was enjoyed by all, the presence of members from other districts being muh appreciated.
