UNDER NAZI RULE

THE NEW GERMANY BROWN TERROR REIGNS THOUSANDS OF VICTIMS SYSTEMATIC BEATINGS [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, April 22. The Manchester Guardian’s Berlin correspondent says that despite the Government’s persistent denials, the “Brown Terror” has become systematic and increases daily. Tho victims, he says, are so numerous that they cannot be hidden. Many thousands arc limping the streets with raw backs, heads bandaged, faces scarred, bones and teeth broken. These prove the horrors of the persecutions. The Brown Shirts even override the Judiciary. As an example of this a Judge who had dismissed a charge against Socialists who defended themselves against the Nazis was arrested and beaten by the “Brown Shirts.” Instead of receiving redress he was suspended. Socialists and Communists arc taken to “Brown houses” to undergo hideous tortures, many cases resulting in death. Flying squads are terrorising villages in large tracts of country, taking their opponents into forests where they beat them. PLIGHT OF THE JEWS

INNUMERABLE SUICIDES. ALL FACED WITH RUIN. LONDON,- April 23. The Daily Herald special correspondent says that innumerable suicides are occurring in Germany daily, mostly of young Jewish lawyers, doctors, and students, in consequence of the hopeless outlook. In view of the persecutions, few of these cases become known.

The newspapers arc forbidden to report them. Even death announcements are disallowed if there is any mention of tho nature of the cause of death, but everyone knows the real meaning of the announcement: “Tragic Fate Robbed Us of Our Son,” or “Suddenly and Unexpectedly.” In the majority of cases of men between twenty and thirty years of age there is no announcement whatever. The feeling of despair among half a million Jews is indescribable. They are practically all faced with ruin. NEW LAWS COMING HARMONISING JUSTICE. BERLIN. April 23. Herr Hans Frank, Bavarian Minister of Justice, has been appointed Commissioner of Justice for tho Reich. He stated, that his special task would be to harmonise the administration of justice in all the Federal States. It is believed that the appointment is a prelude to the replacement of the axioms of Roman law by an essential German law system under which the individual will be subordinated to the State. “UNDER HERR HITLER” NATIONAL REBUILDINGS. BERLIN, April 23. The executive of the historic People ’s Party considered tho proposal for tho dissolution of the party, and contrary to expectation, resolved instead to invite members to actively co-oper-ate in tho process of national reconstruction under Herr Hitler. Tho resolution significantly added: “Freedom of thought and conscience is indispensable to tho building of the new Germany.” A WORLD BOYCOTT LONDON PROCESSION. LONDON, April 23. A procession of 300 motor-cars toured the city East End streets bearing posters, “Boycott German Goods.” This is part of a scheme to hold demonstrations in every city, town, and country. The organisers state that they intend to fight Teutonic barbarism with the strongest weapon, the economic boycott. “Our members,” they say, “have already conceited orders to the extent of £1.000,000. This is only the beginning. ’ ’ SERIOUS LOSS INTELLECTUAL PERSONALITIES Received April 25, 9.10 p.m. BERLIN, April 24. Though the Berliner Tageblatt has passed into Nazi control, it sounds a note of alarm at the serious loss of outstanding intellectual personalities of universities. It is true that the applicants for the vacant professor ships know their jobs, nut the papei asks will they possess the magic of strong individualities to inspire Ger man youth to scientific work? The Tageblatt cites the names of manyfamous Jewish scientists and questions whether medicine, jurisprudence and other professions were really dominated by Jews.
