On the second day of the Newmarket 1 Second October meeting Lord Woolav- 1 ington’s French-bred four-year-old bay 1 mare, Brulette, by Bruleur from Sea- i weed, was granted a walk-over in the C Jockey Club Cup, a sweepstakes with r 500 so vs., and run over the Cesare witch course, two miles and a quarter. Four- t teen horses had been entered, including i one sealed entry, but Brulette alone e carried on her engagement. r c Walk-overs have occurred previously | in the Jockey Club Cup, which is con- i fined to entire horses and mares, but j the last occasion was in 1897, when f Count Schomberg had to accept such j a victory. Horses to walk over in x earlier years were Buccaneer (1892), j Wild Monk (1890), and Carlton (1887). •, On many occasions there have been only c two runners, winners in such races since the 1897 walk-over being Bachelor’s Button (1906), Redium (1908), Amadis . (1909), Willonyx (1911), Aleppo (1912), Son-in-Law (1914), Gay Lord (1919), j Tranquil (1923), and Invershin (1928). There have been three runners each year since 1928, th P respective winners r being Fairway (1929), Brumeux (1930), and Noble Star (1931). c
