DEMAND FOR HOUSES

WANGANUI “FILLING UP.” LAND AGENT’S OBSERVATIONS “Wanganui is filling up,” said a land agent in conversation with a “Chronicle” reporter yesterday. “During the past three months there has been an increasing demand for houses, both to buy and to let. There has also been a tendency of a drift towards the business area of the city, due no doubt to economy in tram fares. “There is more demand for houses to rent than there is to buy, of course, but only recently 1 have been negotiating with people who intend to retire in Wanganui and wish to make their future homes here. One man is giving up farming in Feilding while another is coming from Levin, so you will sco that it is recognised that Wanganui is a good place to retire in. Living is cheaper than in the big cities, sections are not so dear and there is plenty of social life and a variety of sport.” Asked regarding the possible cause of the demand, the agent replied that there appeared to be a number of people returning from other centres, while there was also the usual natural increase resulting from couples marrying and making their own homes. He considered that it would not be long before there would be a demand for new houses in Wanganui, thereby giving a fillip tc the building trade.*
