SHOP ASSISTANTS’ AWARD
Sir, —Would you inform me of the amount of wages due to a female assistant aged 22 years. May she receive holidays? If so how many days and is she to receive full pay? “INQUIRER,” Taihape. The wages due to an experienced female shop assistant in the soft goods, boots and shoes, fancy goods, leather fancy goods, hardware, crockery, books, stationery, furniture and furnishing trades is £2 7s 6d a week, loss 10 per cent. The award states that “one holiday of one day a week on full pay shall be granted on completion of each year of service at a time to be mutually arranged. Such holiday shall be exclusive of the usual statuary holidays.” Where a worker, who has completed six months’ work, leaves the service of his employer he shall be granted pay in lieu of the holidays in proportion to his length of service.— Editor.
