WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. , About 200 members and friends • gathered in the Town Hall supper I room on Monday afternoon on the oeI casion of the celebration of the “first I birthday of the Bulls Women ’s Institute. \ isitors were present from Sanson and Halcoinbc Institutes, and were welcomed by the president, Airs. Ralfe. A pleasant afternoon was spent, musical items and two playettes being given by members of the Bulls Dramatic Circle. Those contributing to the musical programme were Mrs. Abraham (Parewanui), Mrs. Budding (Halcoinbc), and Miss Fagan (Sanson), and ail items were well received. A recitation by Mrs. Edwards (Sanson) was also much appreciated. During the afternoon Mrs. Goodall gave a brief talk on “Laminated Wool.’’ A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, and the birthday cake, donated by members of the committee, was cut by Airs. Broughton senr. Mrs. Vile, on behalf of the Halcombe Institute, presented the Bulls Women’s Institute with a beautiful hand-worked art silk table centre, and expressed thanks and good wishes for the future success of the Institute.

Airs. Drew, of Sanson, also expressed thanks and good wishes on behalf of Sanson visitors, who showed their appreciation by singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” The singing of the National Anthem brought a very successful birthday party to a close. VALUE OF TOP-DRESSING. At the annual meeting of shareholders of the Rangitikei Co-op. (Dairy Coy. Ltd., the chairman (Mr. K. W. Dalrymple) referred to the increase of over 430 per cent, in fertilisers obtained through the company as being most encouraging. It was generally admitted, he added, that the one in difficulties to-day was the man who had been inclined to omit top-dressing. “One thing is certain,” he said, “that to get results from any class of country it is absolutely essential that top-dressing should be done each year. ’ ’

ON THE RANGE. There was a fair attendance at the weekly shoot held on the Bulls range on Alonday evening, and splendid scores were registered. There were two double possibles, gained by D. Lundy and T. Pritchard, while single possibles were put on by M. Banks, C. Broughton and I. Bevan.

PERSONAL. Afrs. Abraham (Parewanui) left for Auckland on Tuesday evening. Afr. W. H. Olson, and Afrs. Olson and ' family left on Tuesday for their new home in Wellington. No advice has been receved by the school committee regarding Mr. Olson’s successor at Bulls school.
