GOLF In the bogey match, played last Tuesday by the lady members of the Waverley Club, Mrs. G. Lupton handed in the best junior card, being all square with bogey. Mrs. Wallace’s round was the best of the juniors, being 2 up on bogey. Mrs. Bowden, Mrs. Wallace, an y i Miss Palmer have all gained handicaps which entitle them to play . in the L.G.U. bronze medal competition. The third qualifying round of the club senior and junior championships will be played by the men to-day. GIRLS’ CLUB The Waverley Girls’ Club held theii annual social and prize-giving last Thursday in St. Andrew s Hall. Spring blossoms and foliage were tastefully arranged round the hall and along the edge of the stage. Members had arranged a display of their year’s work for this evening, and the variety and beauty of the arts and crafts were very interesting and showed a great deal of originality and hard work. Miss Elmslie and Miss P. Cleaver, president of the club committee, both expressed their appreciation of the assistance given by various people of the district, special mention being made of the talks on home science which were given by Miss J. Palmer, B.H.Sc. Mrs. W. Macfarlane then presented the prizes won during the year and congratulated the girls on the excellent show and results of their endeavours. Prizes were presented as follow: — Points won during the half year for good membership and competition: Seniors, Miss E. Davis 1; juniors, Thelma Aiken 1. Sewing: Seniors, M. Paulger 1, M. Davis 2 and 3; juniors, P. Flaherty 1. A. Hickford 2. Slippers: Seniors, J. Wilkins 1, M. Paulger 2; juniors, N. Horton 1, P. Flaherty 2. Tinsel Pictures. Seniors, L. Wilkins 1 and 2; juniors, P. Flaherty 1 and 2. Papier Maclie: Seniors, M. Paulger I, E. Davis 2; juniors, Morya McGonagle 1, N. Horton 2. Afternoon tea and musical items passed the afternoon away very happily, the musical programme being as follows: New Zealand National Anthem, all present standing; pianoforte solo. Miss P. Flaherty; song, “E Pari Ra. ” Miss K. Old; community chorus, “Canoe Song,’’ led by Miss K. Old; song, “That’s All,” Miss Anderson; song. “Mother Macree,” community chorus and six senior girls; community song, “Loch Lomond;” song, Miss KAnderson; folk dance: songs, Miss H. Wall. Miss G. Anderson and Miss P. Belton. The judges, who had awarded the prizes for the girls’ work, were Mesdames R. P. Palmer, I. Lupton, Menzies and Miss J. Palmer.
