"THE COMMON LAW"

.FEATURE AT DUCHESS. CONSTANCE BENNETT STARRED. The Bohemian life of the Paris art colony is frankly and truly pictured in Constance Bennett’s new iilm for RKO Pathe, “The Common Law,’’ now at the Duchess Theatre. Many of the scenes are played in a typical Paris studio. Some of the most unusual are those depicting “The Four Arts Ball’ in full swing. Five hundred players take part in the ball sequence, 94 of whom are beautiful girls costumed in daring outfits patterned after those worn by models at the Paris festival. Comedy that rises from the highest sources and emotions that reach to the heart sound the note of RKO Radio Pictures’ comedy-drama, “Fanny Foley Herself,’’ coming to the Duchess Theatre for Wednesday and Thursday. The production marks the stardom debut of Edna May Oliver whose performances in “Cimarron’’ and “Laugh and Get Rich’’ and other RKO Radio Pictures’ successes made her a star by public demand. In a production especially selected for her, a vibrant story of mother-love and sacrifice, of ever-changing and intriguing backgrounds, of romance and wealth. Miss Oliver is said to exceed all her former portrayals. “The Squaw Man’’ is a bad title for a good picture. The production is coming to the Duchess Theatre next Friday and Saturday. It has an absorbing story aud the acting is of the best.
