HOCKEY TOURNAMENT (Continued from Page 3). Final. Dannevirke Fire Brigade A 1. defeated Fcilding Wanderers 0. J. Smith scored for the winners in the first spell. The. score can be regarded as a true indication of the respective merits of the two teams. Both played well. Dannevirke Fire Brigade were repre sented by J. Smith. G. Robinson, N. Robinson, F. Hand, R. Hall. The following represented Feilding Wanderers:—A. Packer, F. Lawrence, J. Richfield, W. Reid, G. McLeod. Hockey Dance. The visiting hockey teams were entertained by the Taihape Hockey Association at a grand dance in the Town Hall on Thursday evening, and the function proved a most fitting final to a highly successful tournament; The music was supplied by the Melody Boys’ Dance Band, while the M.’sC. were Alessrs. D. Thompson, ID. Treadwell and E. Fleet. Over 150 couples were present to participate in the pleasures of a most enjoyable evening. During an interval the trophies won at the tournament were presented by the president of the Taihape Hockey Association (Mr. W. H. Fookes), who congratulated the winners on their success, and thanked the visiting teams for their attendance at the tournament. On behalf of the Taihape Hockey Association, Air. Fookes presented Air. H. Eaton with a handsome pipe in recognition of his services to the association. Air. Fookes explained that Mr. Eaton was leaving Taihape next week and would be greatly missed. Air. F. H. Bray endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks and made Mr. Eaton a presentation of a tobacco pouch, on behalf L ! the hockey players in Taihape.. . . The first of the three supper sittings commenced at 10.30 p.m., the arrangements in this connection being admirably handled by a strong I"-lies’ committee comprising Mesdames Glenny. Abbott, Vincent, O’Brien. Hall, de Lautour, Hayman, Holmes. Smith, Haves, Stretton, Bolton. Misses N. Donaldson and Holmes. Welcome assistance was rendered by Messrs. J. Jenkins and S. Page. ROBINSON Mr Jarnos Alfred Robinson, of Hihitahi, passed away at the Taihape Public Hospital on Thursday, at the age of 53 years. Deceased was a resident, of Hihitahi, where he had been engaged in the sawmilling industry for the past 24 years. Ho was highly esteemed by all those , with whom he came in contact, and his death will be deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends. He leaves a widow and five sons and three daughters, namely, Messrs Ken, Walter, Robert, Victor and George Robinson and Misses Rita, Rose and Alary Robinson. The funeral will leave St. Margaret’s Anglican Church at 2.30 p.m. to-day (Saturday), for the Taihape Cemetery. GENERAL NEWS No less than ten players —seven ladies and three men—suffered minor injuries during the big hockey tournament at Taihape on Thursday, and were attended to by members of the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Afessrs E. A. Abbott and Pope attended to the men, while Mrs Constable and Miss Black attended to the ladies. Twenty-one teams competed in the tournament. Afr C. S. Hammond notifies by advertisement in this issue that trespassers on his property, known as “Alokai,” will be prosecuted.
