GARNETS AGAIN.
Garnets, which so many people possess and which have been scorned for years, are to be worn again this autumn. The Victorian fashions have made garnets smart, but to be thoroughly “modern” the garnets should be worn in their original Victorian settings. These garnets used to come from. Bohemia, but they have been so completely out of fashion that they have not been mined in any quantity for many years. It is likely, therefore, to be some time before the relics of last century are eclipsed by modern reproductions. One of the well-known Paris houses made a distinct hit with a new red dress worn with a parure of huge garnets in a heavy gold setting. Although the parure was classed as ‘‘costume jewellery” it was priced at 40 guineas.
