OBITUARY
MB. FREDERICK JOHN NOTT Tho death occurred on Saturday of Mr. Frederick John Nott at the age of 66. Mr. Nott was born in Worcester, England, in 1866 and came to New land at the age of 11. He settled Christchurch and married Miss Caroline Greenland. For many years he worked in the carpentering and joining trade and after a period of some 30 years came to Wanganui, where he was associated for some 20 years with Mr. A. G. Bignell. After leaving that firm he took on the work of secretary for the Carpenters and Joiners’ Union, tho Hotels and Restaurants’ Union, and the Plumbers and Painters’ Union. He had been ailing in health for the past two years and for the past nine mooths had been unable to <lo much of his . work. He leaves a widow and four children, Mr. Leonard Nott (Christchurch), Mr. Frederick Nott (Greymouth), Mrs. L. Muller. (Pukcri), Mrs. E. R. Norman (Wanganui East). MR. JAMES CARBOLL. Tho death occurred last Tuesday of another old settler, .Mr. James Carroll, who was 90 years of age. He was the eldest son or the late John and Mary Carroll of Rosbercon, New Ross, County Kilkenny, Ireland. He was born in 1842 and arrived in New Zealand at the age of 20, sailing to this country in the ship “Princess.” For a number of years ho lived at Brunswick and for the last 44 years he resided in the Fordell district. During the Maori Wars he served in the old Kai Cavalry in 1868-69 under Captain Bruce. He was also a member of the Empire \ eterans Association. Ho leaves a widow, three sons, two daughters and 27 grandchildren. Two daughters predeceased him. Ho was buried at the Wanganui Catholic cemetery and a large cortege fol-Jl lowed to tho graveside.
