CAR OVER BANK

FALL OF SIXTY FEET THREE OCCUPANTS INJURED. COLLISION NEAR TAIHAPE. (Our Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, July 29. As a result of a motor collision at a bend on the Main North Road near Mr. E. W. Spooner’s residence, about 1| miles from Taihape, this morning, a sedan car driven by W. H. Martin, of Taihape, went over a bank some 60 feet in. height, turning three complete somersaults before coming to rest on its hood. The vehicle contained two passengers, Mrs. H. Collerton and Miss Collerton. who were both injured, the former receiving a severe cut on an arm and Miss Collerton a deep cut on a leg. The driver suffered a cut on a temple. xA.ll three escaped through a broken window when the car came to a standstill. The other vehicle involved in the collision was an open seven-seater Hudson driven by Ivan Alfred Jacobsen, of Taihape, who was carrying two bales of straw on the front of his car. The straw was resting against the radiator. How narrowly he missed sharing Martin’s misadventure is disclosed by the fact that, his car was brought to a standstill on the edge of the road, with tho two front wheels actually over the bank. Martin was travelling towards Taihape while Jacobsen wag going in the opposite direction when the collision occurred. Both cars were damaged.
