DRAMA IN THE JUNGLE ’ CURRENT DUCHESS FEATURE Though it is not a travelogue. “East of Borneo,’’ now at l hi’ Duchess Theatre, has striking jungle scenes ami has also a dramatic story and moments of suspense and quickening action. The story is that an American doctor buries himself in the wilds and is the only white man in the entire countryside, being the personal physician of an Oriental rajah who rules his people from a ruined castle. Into this desolate spot comes the divorced wife of the doctor, her re-kindled love causing her to follow him half way around the world. It is when her late husband spurns her and the rajah casts covetous eyes on the beautiful white woman that the drama reaches its climax, while the thunderous eruption'of a nearby vol cano adds terror to the scene.

Maurice Chevalier is the star of “The Smiling Lieutenant.” which will be showing at the Duchess Theatre next. Wednesday and Thursday. It is like all the Chevalier pictures, happy, carefree and wholly enjoyable. ( hevalier always brings a laugh, has n happy voice, and a manner that never fails.

“Tilly of Bloomsbury,” opens at the Duchess Theatre next Friday. This young man has had a meteoric rise to fame, and his own personal success is bound up in England’s march to talkie supremacy.

After an absence of several months, Line Masquette will return to the screen in the leading feminine role of Columbia’s next Buck Jones special, a stirring drama of the old West entitled. “Born to Trouble.” It was in the making of this picture that Miss Mas quette suffered injuries due to a fall from her horse. Fortunately, the in juries were not severe nad she has al ready returned to work. “Born to Trouble” will bo Jones’ first feature since his return to Hollywood following a scries nf personal appearances throughout America.
