FIFTY TON’S OF FOOD Headed by Mr. W. S. Van Dyke as director, a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayei studio unit, composed of seventeen technicians, cameramen and mechanics, will embark from Seattle on the first lap of a 13,000-mile journey into the Arctic to film Peter Freuchen’s novel, "Eskimo.” The screen version of “ Eskimo ” will be made in the original locales described in the book, with native players to be recruited by Van Dyke at Point Barrow. Th© cinema party will sail from Seattle for Nome on the steamer Victori, and at Nome will transfer their belongings to the whaling schooner Nanuk. They will carry with them fifty tons of food supplies—enough for a year—also medical equipment, complete sound recording apparatus and a portable laboratory. Van Dyke directed such location films as “ White Shadows in the South Seas,” “The Pagan,” and “Trader H-,*n.” Ho will be assisted in the filmitg of “Eskimo” by Captain Peter Freuchen, author of the book from which tho screen story is derived.

The first co-starring vehicle for Claudette Colbert and Clive Brook, tentatively titled “Bride of the Enemy,” has gone into production. Berthold Vieilel, who directed Miss Colbert in “The Wiser Sex” at Paramount’s New York studios, ir directing.

The first autogiro ’plane used in a motion picture will be seen in “The Misleading Lady,” the Paramount Claudette Colbert-Edmund Low r e starring vehicle. One of tho sequences in the film calls for Lowe to kidnap Miss Colbert, pack her into a ’plane, and fly to a log cabin in the Adirondacks. * * * *

Aubrey Mather, the well-known stage actor, adds greatly to the humour of the screen version of Frederick Lonsdale’s witty comedy, “Aren’t We AIH”, produced at the Paramount British studios. He plays the part of the unctious vicar in his own inimitable way. Aubrey Mather has appeared in numerous West End stage productions.

“Come on Marines,” a dramatic story of Devil Dogs carrying their adventures into war-tossed China, will be produced by Paramount with Chester Morris and Richard Arlen in the leading roles. Direction of the picture has been assigned to Marion Gering, who handled the Paramount production “Ladies of the Big House.” Morris recently completed the Tom Meighan role in “The Miracle Man.” Arlen heads the cast of the aviation film, “Sky Bride.”
