TO SAVE SCRUBBING
Plenty of newspapers used in the kitchen will save a good deal of work. Place a whole one on the kitchen table when you are busy cooking, so that if you put pans or hot dishes down in a hurry, the stain will come on the paper, which can be burnt, instead of the wood, which would have to be scrubbed. It is a wise plan, too, to spread a double sheet of newspaper under your feet, and the edge of the table when making pastry, so that it will catch any flour or paste and save the floor having to be swept or washed if any is spilt.
