CURRIE CUP RUGBY BENNIE OSLER IN FORM In their first two Currie Cup Rugby matches at Newlands (Cape Town) this season the Western Province Rugbv football representatives compiled an aggregate of 100 points without a score being registered against them. Reports to hand state that the Western Province fifteen—practically a Springbok side—proved much too strong for SouthWestern Districts, and ran up the cricket score of 48 noints to nil. All the scores were made by Springboks. The home forwards outplayed the visiting eight, not only in the set scrummages but to an even greater extent in the open, on the line-out. and in the loose mauls; and they gave their backs innumerable chances, besides taking a prominent part tfremselves in many handling movements and in the actual scoring. Except for fifteeen minutes towards the end of the first half, the Western Province attack was never really held in check. A good many passes were dropped by the winners, but many more were held; and the Springbok back division attached at such a pace and with such an intimate knowledge of each other’s play that the crowd was treated to many brilliant movements. B. L. Osler. ,T. C. van der Westhuizen, and P. de Villiers werp especially good, and G. Brand’s kicking was perfect. Western Province won their second match by another cricket score, beating Natal by 52 points to nil. For nearly 20 minutes the visitors kept their line intact, and nt half-time the score was only 13—0. But afterwards, with Natal playing one man short for the last half hour, Province added another 39 points, Bennie Osler played a brilliant game—particularly in the second half—and had a hand in most of the scores, besides kicking eight goals, including a glorious penalty from near touch. D. Craven. J. H. van der Westhuizen. anri D. O. Williams also were much in evidence. But the Natal pack secured the ball from a majority of the scrum'’ and hoele-1 the more cleanly.
