CHARITY BALL

ROTARY CLUB’S FUNCTION LIBERAL PATRONAGE. The charity ball organised by the Wanganui Rotary Club was held in the Urick Cabaret last evening and was eno of the most pleasant functions held this season. Tho large “L” shaped room looked particularly attractive with tall silver vases of Iceland poppies placed in tho window recesses, and instead of the usual method of arranging the tables cabaret fashion, they were set in tho lounge, where a buffet supper was served. The entrance hall was used as a sit-ting-out lounge and was comfortly arranged with chesterfields and easy chairs placed agains tthe walls. Exquisite frocks in every imaginable schade and rich materials for evening wear—soft stins, silky velvets, lace tulles, georgettes in lovely designs—passed down the room under the everchanging coloured lighting effects and spot-lights, as the dancers danced to excellent music played by the River City Syncopators’ Orchestra. Several of the non-uencers spent tho evening at bridge tables. The committee to whose labours the success of the evening whs due included. Mr. A. R. Donaldson (president of the Rotary Club), Mr. S. R. McCallum and Mr. R. L. Thompson, tho latter capably carrying out the duties of M.C.

During the evening those present had the pleasure of watching several exhibition dances. Miss E.
