AUCKLAND RACING CLUB ENCOURAGING OWNERS. KEEPING UP STANDARD. [ Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 26. A loss of £2683, which includes £2OOO. balance of improvements written off and £54 written off the dining-room plant, is shown in the report of the Auckland Racing Club to be presented at the annual meeting. The report says that the result may be considered quite satisfactory considering the difficult times prevailing, and the need for keeping up the prize money to as high a level as possible in order to encourage owners and breeders to continue participation in the sport. At the four race meetings held by the club £41,740 was disbursed in prize money, which included £340 subscribed by owners as sweepstakes. The financial outlook for tho forthcoming season still gave cause for grave doubt, and it would be necessary to again curb expenditure. The committee, however, felt their responsibility to and would endeavour to provide prize money that would ensure the best horses being seen in competition at Ellerslie. TRIP WILL BE MADE LORD VAL AND WOODFUL. ( Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, July 28. J. Clothier has definitely decided to take Lord Vai and Woodful to the Grand National meeting. Both horses have progressed well since they raced at Wellington, and should again run prominently. A. G. Parsons has been engaged to ride them. Sports King, in the same stable, has been sold to a Waimate sportsman, and will accompany Lord Vai and Woodful to Christchurch, where he will be handed over to his new owner. Royal Visitor and Luminary left Frankton to-day for Riccarton. OFF TO AUSTRALIA FLANS FOR NIGHTMARCH. Mr. A. Louisson has finally completed plans for sending Nightmarch to Australia for the spring meetings, and tho horses will leave Christchurch on August 11 in charge of his trainer, A. McAulay, and in company with True Shaft and the rising two-year-old colt, Haere Tonu (Hunting Song—Martianette), both also owned by Mr. Louisson. The three horses will be raced in Sydney up to the close of the Australian Jockey Club’s spring meeting early in October, and if all goes well with them, it is probable that they will then go on to Melbourne to compete at the Melbourne Cup meeting in November. As in tho case of McAulay’s previous visits to Australia,.the riding will be done by Roy Reed, who has been in Sydney for some time past. Nightmarch has been withdrawn from the A.J.C. Metropolitan, so that it is clear that his racing at Randwick is to be iu weight-for-age events. However, he still remains in the Melbourne Cup, for which he shares top weight with Veilmond.
