RANGITIKEI DEFEAT OBOXTA. (Own Correspondent.) The Rangitikei-Oroua Rugby matcl was played at Kimbolton yesterday and Rangitikei won 14—9. The ground was in good order considering recent weather The teams were very evenly matched. Rangitikei did most of the attacking in the ealy stages and from a serum J. Hartley dummied beautifully and put in a good run to pass to j. Taiuru who scored. Hartley’s kick failed. Rangitikei 3, Oroua 0. Almost immediately afterwards, from near half-way, Beard goaled for Oroua from a penalty. Rangitikei 3, Oroua 3. The remainder of the spell brought no outstanding play x At the commencement of the second spell Oroua attacked and Beard followed up well to gather in the ball and score. His kick failed. Oroua 6, Rangitikei 3. Rangitikei forwards took a new lease of life, Mclntyre, Waters, J. Taiuru, Walker and M. Taiuru were seen in a splendid passing bout, the lastnamed scoring. J. Hartley’s kick failed. Oroua 6, Rangitikei 6. Rangitikei were still aggressive and from a line-out J. Hartley secured and cross-kicked and Duncan, who, following up fast, scored at the corner. Hartley’s kick failed. Rangitikei 9, Oroua 6. Soon after Hamer set the Rangitikei backs going and M. (Downs made a. dazzling down-the-line run and, outpacing opponents, scored under the posts. P. Harrc converted. Rangitikei 14, Oroua 6. Rangitikei eased up for a time and Oroua, takiug advantage of the easing up. went dangerously close to their line and McKenzie subsequently scored for Oroua. Ransom failed with the kick and the final scores were Rangitikei 14. Oroua 9. Mr. A. Shannon refereed.
