GIFT EVENING A complimentary gift evening, organised by Mrs J. W. Masters, was tendered to Aliss Connie Terry and Mr Sydney Harris on Saturday night. The Sandon Hall was comfortably filled and a large number of parcels were handed in. A happy time was spent until nearly midnight. During the evening Mrs Ken Bailey contributed two vocal solos, both items being greeted with hearty applause. Music for the dancing was played by Mrs W. E. Pearce, Mrs and Mr E. N. But’er, Mr F. W. To<te vin and Air Ken Bailey. At an interval during the evening Mr J. W. Masters, speaking on behalf of the many friends, expressed the good wishes of all and asked the guests to accept tho contents of the parcels htat had been brought. Mr Sydney Harris, in a, neat speech returned thanks on behalf of Miss Terry and himself. “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” which was heartilv sung, concluded a happy interlude. Air Ken Bailey apo ogised for the absence of Mr Job Harris, who was unable to be present. A daintv supper, provided by lady friends, was appreciated and a most succossfu 1 (‘veiling closed with singing “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem. PERSONAL Air Rex Harris, who has been an in mate of the Wanganui Hospital for some wqeks, was able to leave the institution on Wednesday last. His arm is on the mend, but requires dressing daily. Rex was present at the social on Saturday night and returned to Wanganui on Sunday. lie expects to be returning home in about a fortnight. PLUNKET BABY CARNIVAL The third declaration discloses the ' school baby first, farmers’ baby second, sports baby, third. There is keen interest being taken in tho competition. In the report of the function held in support of the school baby, on Wednesday last, a vote of thanks to the ladies for providing the supper and to Mr Cecil Sanson for his help as M.C. was inadvertently omitted. SANDON OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION 1 The annual meeting of the Sandon Old Boys’ Association was held on Saturday night. Air W. J. Croucher presided over a good attendance, a pleasing feature being the fair number of younger members. In presenting the report the chairman said tho posit-on could not be regarded as satisfactory. For some years interest in the association has been waning and the time had arrived when plans for the future must be seriously considered. The younger members expressed (he opinion that an effort should be made to carry on. A 'special committee was set up to report at a meeting to be hekl shortly. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: President. Mr Owen Ellerm; hon. secretary, Air J. M. Croucher; assistant-secretary, Mr Ken Pearce; executive, Altssrs Ken Lumsden, A. Alatlhows, J. Masters. E. Eglinton, J. Fagan, D. Hammond, M. Pearce, A. Nesbit, M. Covkburn, At. Sanson, E. Bowater. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB. The usual practise shoot was held on Alonday night.
