Air. Benno Afoiseiwitsch left by the Maunganui yesterday for Sydney. Rev. J. Paterson, who has been unwell lately, is now improving in health. A London message reports the deaths of Sir Gilbert Garnsey and General Charles Cunliffe-Owen. Sir Frederick N. K. Menzies, a prominent English medical authority, arrived by the Marama from Sydney, accompanied by his son aged 14, rays a Press Association message from Wellington. After spending a month in the North Island he will go to Canada by the Niagara on July 26. Tho chief guide of the Tourist Department at Tarawera, Air A. Warbrick, was farewelled by members of the staff of the department on the occasion of his retirement. Air Warbrick arrived in Rotorua prior to the Tarawera eruption, which occurred on Juno 9, 1886. and was an eyo-witness of tho disaster that caused such devastation in the Wairoa district. He X had a narrow escape in the second upheaval, which occurred five monthi afterwards. Mr Warbrick has seen Rotorua grow from a village of shacks to its present state of a modern t«wn.
