A considerable amount of interest is being displayed by members of the Rangitikei, Manawatu and EgmontWanganui Hunt Clubs in the steeplechase meeting to be held by the Rangitikei Hunt Club on the Marton racecourse on Wednesday, July 20, the day following the Hunt Club Ball. This is the first meeting of its kind to be held in the Dominion for a lengthy period, and if the club is favoured with fine weather a successful meeting should be recorded, support appears assured from huhtsmen and their supporters over a wide area. The charge for admission Io the

grounds has been fixed at half-a-crown, that covering the lawn enclosure also, and as totalisator tickets in five and ten-shilling units will be procurable, patrons may look forward to having an excellent afternoon’s sport at a small outlay. It will be really in the nature of a picnic outing. The programme comprises seven events, there being three hack flat races, three hunters’ events, and one. hack hurdle race. The hunters’ events are:—View Halloa Steeplechase, for maiden hunters, (2 miles and a distance); Rangitikei Hunt Club Steeplechase, for qualified hunters (about 2k miles); Glenmore Ladies’ Bracelet, on flat (1J miles). Trophies have been donated for the hunters’ events by Messrs Dunean Bros., Eric Riddiford and Alan H. Marshall. Entries close on Friday, July 8, at 8 p.m. and programmes may be obtained on application to Mr. A. Way, secretary, Marton. A FURTHER REVERSE JAMIESON AT ROSEHILL. At the Rosehill (N.S.W.) meeting on Saturday the New Zealand trainer, J. T. Jamieson, produced two of his string, Timorous and King March, but both were beaten. Timorous coud do no better than third in the Juvenile Stakes, six furlongs, won by Dover Patrol, and King March filled the same position in the Rosehill June Handicap, one mile and three furlongs, the winner being Flinders. Jamieson’s recent tilts at Australian prizes, and presumably also at the “ring” have proved costly, and certainly do not augur too well for the success of the many Dominion ventures across the Tasman that are shortly to bo undertaken. The Saturday before last Jamieson also crashed on Hard Words at Moorefield, and Sydney exchanges just to hand state that he handed back to the “ring” most, if not all, of the profit he made off Timorous’ two earlier victories.
