MEETING OF B.N. AND H-A, At a meeting of the Bush Nurse find Housekeeper Auxiliary of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, held in Palmerston North yesterday, the Dominion president (Mrs. C. K Simpson, Marton; Mrs. A. H. Mac Lean, Fordell; Mrs- E.. Dagg, Mauriceville; Mrs. J. D. Aitkin and Miss Baker, Wangaehu; Mrs. W. H. Young, Stratford; Mesdames W. Howell and H. Bond, Palmerston North; Mesdames C. G. C. CDermer, A. McCorkingdale and Miss M. Boddy, Feilding; Mesdames J. Livingstone and Shirley Bicknell. Dannevirke; Mrs A- Lees, Okaiau; Mrs. J. Coulson. Mangahei; Mesdames S. J. Lowry, C. Bartlett and S. Stewart, Ohingaiti: Mw. J. D. Piper, Pahiatua. Miss C. E. Connor (Dominion secretary) was also in attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs. Pow (Dominion treasurer), Mrs. C. K. Wilson, Pio Pio; Mrs. Coogan, Taumarunui; Mrs. Goodall, Bulls; Mrs. Baldwin, Wangaehu; Mrs. Thompson, Hastings; Miss Polson, Wanganui; Miss Heckler, Mauriceville; Mrs. Nowell, Mrs. McLennan, Mrs. Kline and Mrs. Maunsell. Reductions to employers of housekeepers were granted in cases at Cambridge, Fordell, Hamilton (two), Levin, Mangahei, Ohingaiti, Ohura, Taihape, Taumarunui, Te Awamutu, Te Mata, Ruawai (two!. Waihi, Wanganui (three) and Waverley, the branches concerned having all reported that their advisory members were in favour of reductions being made. An application with regard to a necessitous case at Whata Whata was approved. Several very deserving eases came up for consideration and in each case help was granted in the way of payingnurses’ fees, housekeepers’ wage’s, or total expenses of housekeepers. A letter from Awakeri branch concerning an advance to a housekeeper who did not fulfil her engagement was referred hack to the branch. A claim from Fordell branch for travelling expenses was agreed to. Further inquiries are to be made following a letter from Awakeri branch regarding help secured from registry offices, this not being approved. Reports. The Dominion office report stated I that since last meeting 41 housekeepers had been employed, as against 42 |at the time of the previous report. 'The -housekeepers had been working in the. following districts: North Auckland <3, South Auckland 18. King Country 2, Bay of Plenty 2, Hawke’s Bay 1, Wanganui 5, Taranaki 1, Wairarapa 2, Manawatu 1, Central Wellington 5. Canterbury 1. Mrs. Smith had filled three sowing engagements during the period.—The report was adopted. Reports were also presented from Wairarapa and Wanganui executives and from the Hamilton branch, and were adopted. Remits to be considered at the executive meeting in Wellington in July were before the mooting and an indication of opinion was given. Various matters of general interest, wore discussed, the mooting concluding with the usual vote of thanks to the chair. ABSENTMINDEDNESS A rare instance of maternal absentmindedness was recorded in Dunedin last week. A woman who was wheeling a child in a perambulator signalled a tram to take her aboard. The con ! ductor stepped down ami hoisted in i the pram, the mother jumped aboard, i and the tram had started to move on when the conductor noticed the child i still on the footpath.
