W.E.A.
WHITHER MANKIND? MR. BRAILSFORD’S CONCLUDING LECTURE. The last lecture of the W.E.A. series un “The World Since the War” by the staff tutor, Mr. J. A. Brailsford, ie to be given at the City Council Chambers this evening at 8 o’clock under the title, “Whither Mankind?” The pres .'ent outlook is dark with war-clouds, a class-struggle developing on a worldwide scale, distress and unemployment, loss of respect for plighted agreements and a seeming lack of such leadership ius would grapple with these mighty difficulties. While facing these menacing signs frankly and admitting the probability of vast changes. Mr. Brailsford will point out that the present ae cumulation of troubles arises largely from our having gained immense new powers over the forces of Nature, while our social organisation develops more slowly. From the story of evolution and the history of mankind’s social life wo can see how progress has been maintained despite setbacks in some directions. Are the present devils in the path insuperable, or can human personality rise to the challenge? This is the question the lecturer will try to answer. The meeting is open to all.
