ABSENCE OF MINISTERS THE DELEGATION TO OTTAWA [ Per Pres? Association.] WELLINGTON. June 15. The re-shuffling of the Cabinet portfolios which will be made necessary by the absence at the Imperial Economic Conference at Ottawa, of the Hon. J. G. Coates ami Hon. W. Downie Stewart was discussed by the Prime Minister on his return to Christchurch yesterday. Mr Forbes said he would take over the portfolios of Finance and Customs from Mr Stewart, and the AttorneyGeneralship, which was also hold by Mr Stewart, would probably bp administered in his absonve bv the Minister of Native Affairs, Sir Apirana Ngata. although this question had not been discussed. The portfolio of Employment would be taken over, during Mr Coates’ absence, by the Postmaster-General and Minister of Labour, Hon. A. Hamilton. The departmental control of the Labour and Employment Departments had now been vested in one head and as it was intended to use. the organisation of the Labour Department to assist the unemployment relief administration, the temporary assumption of Employment would be made easier for Mr Hamilton.
Questioned concerning the personnel of the. deputation, the Prime Minister said hp thought that Mr Coates would go to Ottawa, although he knew he was considering the question.
