TROOPSHIP AFIRE
INCIDENT AT SHANGHAI THREATENING SHIP BEACHED Received Mav 22, 11.5 p.m. SHANGHAI, May 22. The Japanese army transport Bombay Maru, caught fire in the. harbour this morning a few hours before troops embarked returned to Japan. The vessel carried 100 tons of gasoline, and the fire spread with great rapidity, threatening the wharves and other ships and necessitating the cutting of the hawsers and the taking of the flaming Bombay Maru through the harbour and beaching her on the river bank, where she is still burning.
