EFFORTS TO RAISE IT. The London-Australian rate of exchange is still £1 sterling, equal to £1.25 Australian. Strong ', ocacy is being made by exporting interests to have a return tj the old £1.30 -ate, or higher. While freely admitting the gr at service rendered to Australia’s primary industries by the depreciation of our own exchange r te, Wm. Tilley and Co., stockbrokers, of Sydney, express the view that there is /grave danger in relying too much on this arbitrary fixation, as it tends to defer tho settlement of the really vital problem, the control of costs within revenue, or, in other words, the establishment of a profit margin throughout all industry.
