MUNICIPAL BAND The president (Afr E. Loader) occupied the chair at the annual meeting of the Taihape Alunicipal Band on Friday evening. WOOL CAMPAIGN An advertisement appeared in yesterday’s issue* giving particulars of a wool campaign to be held shortly by the Taihape branch of the W.D.F.U. with the object of encouraging people to use more wool. There are classes for children as well as adults and good entries arc expected. The wool display held under the auspices of the W.D.F.U. last year was a great success and attracted considerable attention and indications point to this year’s campaign being just as successful, if not more so, than that of 1931. Only hand-knitting must be entered, pure wool only to be used. All entries close with the secretary (Afrs L. A. Hebberd), of Utiku, on June 22. Further particulars will be advertised later. MAJESTIC THEATRE ‘ 1 TRANSATLANTIC ’ ’ Replete with romance and crammed with action and intrigue, “Transatlantic,” new Fox Film production, has its premier showing to-day at the Majestic Theatre. Edmund Lowe, who heads the allstar cast, has the role of “Monty Greer,” a gambler anxiously sought by the district attorney as star witness in a graft trial. His adventures, both amatory and otherwise, aboard this ocean greyhound prove amusing and interesting. Prominent in tho supporting cast arc Lois Aforan as “Judv Kramer”: Jean Horsholt plays her father, an old German lens grinder, making his first luxury trip abroad; John Halliday, an absconding banker; Afyrna Loy, hrs wife; Greta Nissen, a Swedish dancer and sweetheart of Halliday, and Halliday’s stolen millions. William K. Howard directed. “Transatlantic” will be shown at the Majestic to-day at 1.45 p.m. (matinee), and at 8 p.m.; also on Afonday at 8 y.m. bn Saturdays a special passenger carriage will be attached to a train arriving at Taihape at 7.15 p.m. from Ohakune and stopping at all stations where required. Picture patrons from the north will thus have a,n opportunity of attending the Majestic and can return by the 10.55 p.m. train. This arrangement applies to Saturdays only.

GENERAL NEWS “Any Complaints?” inquired the orderly officer at the R.S.A. re-union on Friday evening. “Yes, I thought we were going to have poultry tonight,” replied the orderly-sergeant.
