LONG FLIGHT BANNED
COLOUR BLIND PILOT A LICENCE REFUSED. LONDON, Alay 11. Mr Douglas Shepherd, an Australian whose intended attempt to make a record Hight Io Australia was frustrated by the refusal of tho authorities to grant him a certificate, will return by boat. “Mr Shepherd has no chance of flying out of England,” said Squadronleader Marsden, air attache at Australia House. “When he sought to renew his pilot’s certificate in April, tho medical tests disclosed colour blindness, and it was refused. He can locally, but. not over foreign countries.” Mr Shepherd had intended to buy the late Commander Glen Kidston’s Lockhead Vega machine. Mr Shepherd was taught to fly by e De Haviland Aircraft Company last .ear, at. Mascot, and later purchased the Puss Moth in which Captain Matthews flew to Australia. Early this vear he went to England and unsuccess I’u‘ly applied for a “B” licence.
