Richard Gives a Boxing Lesson

Gwen and Richard are not on apeaking terms at present. It happened like thin. The chums had missed Richard, but found him in the tutting room capering about in front a book. You will notice a pair of hoxing gloves on the ground by the chair. “Now, what itt he up to?” enquired Tolly. “Boxing!” Ted replied.

Surely enough it wan boxing! “Come in!” invited Richard. “Come in I’ve been practising some lessons in boxinff from this book. It’s awfully simple, and it's written by ihe ‘champion.* 1 wouldn’t mind taking anybody on now. If you like, Gwen, I’ll give you a lesion.” “I'm not no sure,” said Gwen. “Come on,” said Richard. “Everybody ought to know how to box.”

Gwen was not at all keen on a boxing lesson, but at last Richard managed to persuade her. Richard, you will notice, sparred up in quite a professional manner. "Now,” he said, “you’ve got to be quick. That is the main thing. ’ hall lead off with my left, and you’ve got to stop me. Arc you ready?” “Yeo!” said Gwen. “But don’t be too quick to start with."

Richard had practised what he had learned in the hook rather well. In tact, rathef too well for poor Gwen. With a quiek little tap. he shot out his left paw, and caught Gwqn a sharp rap on the nose. Gwen saw all kinds of stars. “No more for me,” she cried. “Let Ted have a go.” Ted is a plucky little chap, so he agreed quite readily.

Ted put on the boxing glove, and faced Richard. Poor Gwon stood behind and stroked her sore nose tenderly. “Now Ted,” cried Richard, “You saw what happened to Gwen. I'm going to do exactly the same to you. unless you can stop me. When I say go!—look out." “I’m ready,” said Ted. “Now be careful, Richard." warned Polly. “Ted’s a little one, remember ”

Poor Gwen! You see what happened. Ted was not nearly so silly as Richard thoughtImmediately Richard lunged forward, Ted ducked! And this was disastrous for Gnen, who st«Mxi close behind, because she caught the blow once more on her nose. What made her annoyed was that the* al! had to laugh She hasn’t spoken to Richard since, but she will aeon recover her good temper I expect. 1
