THE PIRATE PRINCE”

PLAY AND CONCERT SUCCESS AT CASTLECLIFF HALL. With, a crowded hall to play to, the concert and play given at the Castlecliff Town Hall last Wednesday night by the pupils of St. Luke's Sunday School proved an outstanding success. From the opening chords of the overture. till the final .chorus, the programme was carried through without a hitch and each item was received enjjiusiastieally, more than one having to f be repeated. Pidced first on the programme and forming the main portion, was a play specially written for the occasion by Mr A. Ansley, a promising and increas-ingly-well-known Wanganui boy of literary talent. The play included seven chief with a chorus of pirates and was entitled 1 ‘The Pirate Prince.” The parts were all well portrayed, the following being the chief players: Jean Scott (the prince): Jean Norman (the queen); Audrey Gaskin (servant maiden); Bert Gaskin (pirate prince); Laurence Gaskin (Fitzgurgle, his second-in-command); Mavis Dacre (the princess); Audrey Gaskin (princess’ maid).

Under the stage management of the j composer, the play showed that the players had been well coached in their parts and brought to the fore some l promising talent. Lighting Effects by Mr C. Howe, and scenery by Mr F. ’Stokes, added to the pleasure derived |by the audience from the play, while (Mr G. Dawson played the musical acIcompaniments most capably. Other items on the programme included: Overture, G. Dawson; song scena, by the tiny tots; choruses by the pirate girls, junior girls and the whole company and a tap dance by Miss McBeth and G. Dawson. A sketch by the whole company, with the leading characters played by Laurence Gaskin, Jean Norman and Tom Howe, made a | fitting conclusion to a most entertaining evening and the final curtain fell leaving a most pleasurable feeling among the audience.
