SAFEGUARDING THE FUNDS OPPOSITION TO DIVERSION NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 17. Unanimity of opinion and the deternination of the people of Taranaki to lo all in their power to oppose divert tng the whole or part of the funds from the Opaku Reserve from the purpose of providing higher education for the youth of the province, was again evidenced at a representative meeting of provincial educational authorities held last evening. The meeting was called to receive the report of a deputation which re centlv waited on the university senate in regard to the matter. Many local bodie and interested organisations throughout Taranaki forwarded resolutions voicing strong protest at any' possible diversion from Taranaki of the scholarship funds. The conference passed a resolution expressing its determination to oppose to the utmost any proposal to divert, the funds. It was also decided to set up a vigilance < ommittee to look after the interests of higher education in Taranaki, particularly in respect to the Taranaki scholarships.
