JUDGE AND HIGH COSTS

DIVORCE SUIT EXPENSES High legal costs in divorce proceedings were criticised by Judge Crawford at Edmonton, England, lately. A man appeared before him on a judgement summons alleging that he owed £93 as costs in divorce proceedings brought by his wife. The £93, declared the man, represented only the legal costs, the divorce proceedings being undefended. “It is appalling to think that undefended divorce proceedings «cost as much as £93,” remarked Judge Crawford. “I have already said enough about costs, but nothing seeins to be done. I suppose something will be done by somebody, although, perhaps, not in my time. I am not blaming the solicitors, but it is the system which is wronf. ” The man explained that he was a travelled earning 50s a week wages and commission, but because of bad trade he was not getting any commission. The judge made an order for the man' to pay the £93 by monthly instalments of 10s.
