FINAL SESSION AT TIMARU LINDSAY BEATS BRIDSON [ Per Press Association. J TIMARU, Feb. 17. The final session of the New Zealand senior swimming championships was held to-night in the presence of a record gathering. Throughout the championships the weather has been perfect and the patronage of the public has been splendid. Chief interest to-night centred in the men’s 440 yards championship and the ladies’ 220 yards championship, for on the result of these rested the fate of the Yaldhurst ShieldResults were as follow: Ladies’ 220 Yards Championship (Holder, Miss E. Champion, Auckland.) Miss M. Farquhar (Auckland) 1, Miss P. Robertson (Auckland) 2, Miss N. Stratton (Auckland) 3. Also: Miss S. Campbell (Canterbury) and Miss M. (Otago). Won by a touch. Time 3-0 2-5. Miss Farquhar led to the last turn, where Miss Robertson drew level. There was a great struggle over the last 20 yards, Miss Farquhar just getting home, with Mis Stratton a foot away. Men’s 440 Yards Championship(Holder, G. Bridson, Auckland.) D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury) 1, G. Bridson (Auckland) 2, A. T. Stokes (Canterbury) 3. Also: D. Reid (South Canterbury). Won by 10 yards. Time 2.22 3-5. Bridson was the early leader, he having an advantage over Lindsay up to 250 yards. Lindsay drew level at 300 and, putting on the pace, opened up a good gap. Bridson made a good effort to reduce the gap but failed to make any leeway. Ladies’ 220 Yards Breaststroke. (Holder, Miss G. Pidgeon, Auckland.) Miss M. O’Meara (Auckland) 1, Miss N. Webber (Wellington) 2, Miss M. Mathieson ((Otago) 3. Also: Miss V. Berry (Canterbury), Miss K- Seotter Southland). Won by seven yards. Time 3.43. Miss Mathieson was the early leader but Miss O’Meara went to the front in the second lap and was not headed. Miss Mathieson was two yards behind Miss Webber. Flying Squadron (500yds.) Canterbury A (D. Lindsay, A. T. Stokes, E- McConville. D. H. Symes, A. T. Daiton) 1, Canterbury 8 2, South Canterbury 3. Won by ten yards. Time 5.20 3-5. Water Polo Championship.
