MARVELS OF 1932

SOME INTERESTING FORECASTS. LONDON, Jan. 7. Strange visions are conjured up by a peep into the possibilities of 1932, the most unique being the forecast by Professor Low of marriages arranged by emanations. Professor Low thinks certain people give off certain love emanations, the scientific study of which would result in happier marriages and relieve the congestion in the divorce courts. The subject, says Professor Low, is at present monopolised by street poets and novelists, but hois of the opinv -i that successes in the discovery of new kinds of emanations from the sun, which many people are attempting, may lead to a greater knowledge of the structure of the matter. Some people are seriously thinking of making a rocket ascend 100 miles, where the observer on being released would bo enabled to breathe by a special suit. ”1 refuse to say that this is impossible, bu I can think of many people whom I wish would make tho trip,” added tho professor. The next, really big stunt, according to the professor, will be a non-stop flight round the world, the ’plane being refuelled at various points. If artificial light, the efficiency of which is at present 24 per cent, was increased by half per cent, it would have tremendous results. Sir Malcolm Campbell, in his visions, sees the land speed record reaching 260 miles an hour. “If ‘Wizard’ Smith beats the existing record of 246 miles and hour, which seems likely,” says Mr. Malcolm, “there may be another appreciable speed jump later.” John L. Baird believes that television will be universally adopted in theatres and music halls, and this, with football, cricket and racing, will enable us to sit at home and see everything. London will be the world’s telephone switch-board of 1932, for already English subscribers can speak to 95 per cent, of the world’s telephone subscribers, and soon South Africa and Japan will be included in wireless telephone radius from England. ___
