WARNING BY MAGISTRATE OWNER’S DECISION AWAITED AUCKLAND, Jan. 13. “A dog is entitled to one bite only; yours has already had two/' said Air. F. 11. Levien, S.M., in the Police Court at Onehunga yesterday, in a case in which Lawrence Imrie was charged under the Dog Registration Act with having permitted an Airedale dog u be at large while not properly muzzled. Mrs. Linda Harker said she was walking along Mount Smart Road on December 12 when defendant’s dog bit her on the leg. She called on the owner and tolc him. Arthur O. Coster said he was a traveller calling weekly at the house where defendant lived. The dog had attacked him at different times and on December 21 it bit him on the knee. The dog was known to be dangerous, and a notice, “Beware of the Dog.’ was displayed on the front gate. Replying to defendant’s counsel witness said he had never teased the dog. Counsel: Do you know anything about dogs? Witness: I know when they bite. (Laughter). Defendant, in evidence, said his dog was no more vicious than ordinary Airedales. It was a very valuable dog and was two and a-half years old. The magistrate said h p was inclined to order the destruction of the animal, but he would reserve his decision until January 25 to see what defendant proposed to do in the matter.
