BIG CIRCUS AFIRE
SUSPICION OF ARSON THREATENING LETTER SENT FOREIGN SHOW RESENTED (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received Jan. 14, 7.43 p.m. BRUSSELS, Jan. 14. Arson is suspected as the cause of a lire which destroyed the famous Surrazani Circus at Antwerp. There were terrifying scenes while two hundred horses, fifty-seven lions, sixteen tigers, twelve Polar bears and twenty-two elephants were rescued. Keepers rushed in among the plunging boasts and released them from foot chains, but it was impossible to release eleven which were fatally burned. The damage exceeds £30,000. An anonymous threat to burn the circus was received yesterday, there having been much controversy over allowing a foreign circus to enter the country at a time of economic crisis.
