WEATHER FORECAST
General Situation.—A shallow cyclone is centred west of the North Island, while a fairly intense anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Northerly at first north of Greymouth. and Kaikoura, but southerlies becoming general during to-morrow morning and strong .in places. Seas (N.Z. waters): Smooth to moderate generally, but rising later on the east coast and north of Farewell Spit. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds and rough, seas. Weathort Cloudy and warm at first; fairly general rain developing with some heavy falls in the North Island and, in places, thunder: becoming cooler to-morrow, and improving soon on the west coast of the South Island. Phases of the moon, January —Last quarter, January 1; new moon 8; first quarter 16; full moon 24; last quarter 30. The New Zealand Friends’ School, Wanganui, report for 24 hours up to 6 p.m. yesterday. Shade temperature maximum 65 deg. Fahr., minimum, 53 deg. Fahr., rainfall, nil.
