Tragedy overtook a gang of four motor bandits who came from Chicago on Christmas Eve and failed to make their “getaway-” The gang invaded Dunkirk, snatched £lOOO from the First State Bank, and were dashing towards the open country in their armoured motor when a policeman’s bullet drove a hole in their petrol tank. . Forced to abandon the car, they fled into a field, where the police surrounded them, shot one dead, captured the others and recovered the loot.
