LIVE WHALE ASHORE

STIR AMONG CAMPERS. STRANDED NEAR PARGA VILLE. DAEGAVILLE, Jan. 13. A live whale, measuring 31ft., came ashore last evening opposite Mauies Gorge, on the West Coast beach, and is causing some excitement amongst campers on. the coast. Women who were watching from the cliffs observed the whale travelling slowly along some distance inside the i I breakers. Suddenly it turned as though chased, and came ashore at about halftide. A large number of motorists went to see it. During the night it ; was floated off and is now dead, stranded half a mile further south, opposite the Mahuta Gorge. Campers ; in the vicinity will probably have to cut their holidays short, as the Jan--1 uary sun will quickly cause the whale I to decompose.
