ON WANGANUI TRACKS

PREPARING EOR FEILDING. PEDESTAL GALLOPS WELL. The Wanganui tracks had begun t show the effects of the dry spell an thus the rain which fell last Frida., and Saturday was welcomed by trainers with horses engaged at the Feilding meeting. The tracks have already freshened up and the going yesterday morning was in great order, the course proper being used for fast work. Pedestal, who is engaged in the Aorangi Trial Plate, had his trainer in the saddle for an effort over six furlongs in company with Just an Idea. There was not much between them at the finish, with Just an Idea having a slight advantage, the time recorded being Imin. 16 2-sscc. The first halfmile had taken them 49 2-ssec, and they covered some 17yds. more than the six furlongs which had been set them. Judging by his display at Marton, where he was accounted unlucky. Pedestal is going to take a lot of beating at Feilding. Four furlongs was the task allotted Pomp, and with his trainer in the saddle the Absurd gelding cut out the distance in 50sec., moving freely all the way. He is to fulfil his engagement in the Feilding Stakes on Saturday, but as he will be up against such smart ones as Karapoti, Cadland, Laughing Prince and Cimabue, it may be that he. will find the task a little beyond him. Still, the distance is only five furlongs and he has plenty of speed, so it will take something brilliant to head him off.

Head Lady, who is engaged in the Nursery Handicap on the second day at Feilding, was given a sprint over two furlongs, cutting out- the distance in a tick under 26scc. She is a smart customer.

Arisus covered five furlongs after breakfast, recording Imin. 3 3-ssec. for the distance without being unduly extended. With 7.9 in the Flying Handicap at Feilding on Saturday Arisus should not be neglected.
