AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION Last week a number o€ the executive committee of the Wanganui Automobile Association paid a visit to Waimarino. At Raetihi the delegation met the Alayor, Air W. Harris, and some of the councillors. A visit of inspection was made to the camping ground which has lately been improved and enlarged in preparation for the coming tourist season. The members of the Automobile Association expressed their pleasure at the improvements and made further suggestions. The Mayor pointed out that the council would like to assist motorists and provide suitable accommodation but it was hampered by shortage of funds. Some of the ratepayers did not think they required any benefit from the motor traffic but it was recognised to bo. of advantage to the shopkeepers. He suggested that the Automobile Association might make a grant and thus subsidise the borough’s expenditure. The members of the association agreed to bring the request before the next meeting of tho association. Air C. H. Ball, chairman of the Waimarino County Council, drew attention to the necessity for the erection of a signpost at the Mohotuku School. There was a bend in the road near the school and motorists were often at the school gates before thev realised the danger. The committee visited the scene and decided to have erected a signpost drawing attention to the school. Harris. 1s now making tho payments to recognised vlnimants in connection with the searchers on Mt. Ruapehu, and the Mayor of Auckland Fund.
