MARTON BOROUGH

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL (From Our Own Correspondent) MARTON, Nov. 23. The Council met this evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. F. Russell) and Councillors G. B. Gregory, T. Barton, A. A. Mclndoe, A. Honeyman, W. B. Langston, A. J. B. Sicely, J. D. Gurrie and K. A. Williams. A circular letter was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs ro the Dominion Fire Waste stating that it has been decided to hold a “Fire Prevention Week” from November 23 to 28, asking the council’s co-opera-tion.—Referred to the Fire Brigade Committee.

The chief mechanical engineer of the New Zealand Railways wrote stating that on supplying gas to tho department at Marton on the new agreement it was agreed that the price charged should bo subject to a review on August. 3, 293.1, with a view to a reduction and asking that tho matter be placed before the council.—Referred to the Gas Com mittee with power to act. G. Goddard, asking council, under special circumstances, to extend payment of rates amounting to £9 19s 8d until the end of January, 1932.—Taken in committee. P. Dement also wrote for an extension of time for payment of rates. — Taken in committee. D. Anderson wrote asking council for a copy of a deed of lease for a strip of land on Small’s boundary on upper waterworks reserve. —To bo forwarded to him. Secretary Marton Brass Band acept ing council’s invitation to parade ou December 15. Left in the hands of Cr. Currie. Crs. Honeyinan and Mclndoe were •'ppointed to sign the rate book. Deputation of retailers waited on the council regarding Christmas carnival week. Various committees were formed and a general committee meeting was called for Monday night in the Council Chambers.
