APPEAL FROM RAETIHI
■•ENTHUSIASTIC YOUNG REBELS” [ Per I'resr. Association. 1 AUCKLAND, Oct. 14. “Yes, it is true I am a Communist. I joined when Bernard Shaw did. I thought if it was good enough for him it was good enough for me. All great minds think alike,” said James Edwards,- giving evidence at the Police Court, where he was charged with encouraging lawlessness. The Court was crowded.
It was alleged that Edwards, at a meeting last Sunday, urged his hearers to go to Norfolk Street on Monday and prevent an eviction (which took place yesterday), and “prevent force by force.”
During the evidence a detective said two letters were found on Edwards, written by men from Raetihi, appealing to Edwards or another Red worker to go there and speak, and stating, “There are enthusiastic young rebels here, but duds are in the majority.” The hearing is proceeding.
