NO FOOD OR WATER
TRAVELLING SINGER’S FLIGHT
While returning to Melbourne by motor car after an inspection of the North Australian railway, the Commonwealth Railwity Commissioner, Air. G. H. Gahan, found Eric Alalpas, a youth, of Bondi, who had collapsed by the side of the road, 20 miles north of Teunant’s Creek.
Alalpas had left Banka Banka station on a bicycle early on Thursday on a journey of 60 miles across a waterless
stretch of country, seven miles north of the point where he was found. He had left his swag and empty water bag on the track to attract the attention of any passing motorist. Alalpas had collapsed about noon on tho previous day and had been without food and water for more than 48 hours.
Air. Gahan’s party applied methods of resuscitation for about two hours. Alalpas revived and he was taken to Tennant’s Creek and later to Alice Springs, where he is slowly recovering. It is stated that Alalpas is making bis way round Australia by singing at different points along bis .route.
