MOTORISTS’ EYESIGHT
REGULATIONS AT CANBERRA The difficulties besetting motor drivers with defective eyesight in the Federal Capital Territory led to an animated discussion at the meeting of the Advisory Council in Canberra recently, during consideration of a proposed new motor traffic ordinance. A member pointed out that under the existing regulations, a person requiring spectacles to pass an eyesight test at a distance of 9ft. must wear them when driving a motor vehicle, even though they impaired his vision and rendered him a public danger.
Another member cited the instance of a man who wore spectacles in order to conform to the regulations, but who bad removed the glass in order to sec.
