Doctors crowded, the court at Lubeck during the hearing of the sequel to the deaths of 75 infants following treatment with the Calmette anti-tuber-cular process last year. Professor Deyck, head of Lubeck general hospital, Doctor Klotz, head of the children’s hospital, Doctor Altstedt, head of the Health Department, and nursing sister Anna Schultze were charged with negligence and causing manslaughter and bodily injury to 253 infants, whereof 75 died, over 100 were seriously ill and many were yet endangered. The prosecution alleges that insufficient care was taken ir. the preparation of the vaccine, the Calmette cultures being kept in the same incubator with virulent human tubercular cultures. It is also alleged that defendants failed to discover by experiments on animals whether the cultures were inocuous before administration. The hearing was adjourned.
